Barcodes 

Barcodes are simple to represent as black rectangles separated by white spaces, nevertheless they have became hard to generate accurately. Bar and space widths are often computed inside a complex manner and check digits complicate the image. Our approach uses XSLT to implement the computational part and SVG to draw the whole picture. Applying this technique, it might be possible to integrate barcodes into XSL-based workflows in a natural way.

Barcode generation templates may be called from within XSL stylesheets without necessity for special barcode fonts or third-party image-drawing software. Compared to other strategies of producing barcode symbols in XSL FO, this method has obvious advantages:

printed output is the sharpest possible free of cost . a vector graphics;
image dimensions are reduced;
every facets of the barcode pattern could be controlled - stroke widths, colors, lengths, etc.
